Onsite IT Support in St. Catharines
Remote tools solve most software problems. They cannot re-terminate a network cable, swap a failed drive, mount an access point in the right place or trace which port a device is actually plugged into. Griffin IT Group provides onsite IT support across St. Catharines for the work that requires someone physically present.
Our office is in Thorold, minutes from St. Catharines, so site visits are practical rather than exceptional. Onsite work is planned where possible and dispatched when circumstances demand it.
When a visit is the right answer
Situations that genuinely require hands on equipment
Being clear about when onsite work is warranted keeps costs sensible and gets problems solved faster. These are the categories that reliably need attendance.
- 01
Failed or failing hardware
Workstations that will not power on, drives showing errors, failed power supplies, dead docking stations and laptops with physical damage. Diagnosis, replacement, imaging and data transfer happen in person.
- 02
Server and infrastructure work
Physical server maintenance, drive and memory replacement, controller batteries, UPS units, rack tidying and anything requiring console access when the network path itself is the problem.
- 03
Network equipment and cabling
Installing and replacing switches, tracing and labelling ports, patch panel work, and coordinating with cabling contractors when new drops are needed.
- 04
Wi-Fi coverage problems
Poor coverage is usually physical: access points in the wrong locations, too few of them, channel overlap or building materials that block signal. Surveying and repositioning has to be done on site.
- 05
Office moves and new locations
Preparing a new space, coordinating internet installation, moving equipment, rebuilding the network and getting people working in the new office on schedule.
- 06
Meeting rooms and shared spaces
Displays, cameras, microphones, speakerphones, Teams room configuration and the cabling behind it all, tested with an actual meeting rather than assumed to work.
How we schedule
Planned visits, with dispatch when something cannot wait
Most onsite work is better planned than rushed. Where an issue is not stopping the business, we schedule a visit at a time that suits your operation, arrive with the parts and equipment required, and complete several items in one trip rather than making three separate journeys.
Some situations do not allow that. A failed server, a network outage across the office, a firewall that will not come back after a power event or a security incident requiring containment all warrant immediate attendance. In those cases we work the problem remotely while a technician travels, so diagnosis is already underway on arrival.
We do not publish a guaranteed arrival time, because a promise that ignores traffic, weather, parts availability and other clients is not a promise worth making. What we commit to is a realistic estimate when you call, honest updates if that estimate changes, and priority handling for outages.
For organizations that want regular physical presence, scheduled recurring visits are an option — a set half-day or day each week or month for hardware refreshes, cabling tidy-ups, meeting room checks, deskside help and the small jobs that never quite justify their own appointment.
Projects
Onsite project work delivered around your operating hours
Larger physical work is delivered as a defined project with a scope, schedule and quote. That includes network refreshes, server replacements, Wi-Fi redesigns, office fit-outs, relocations and fleet-wide device rollouts.
Sequencing matters more than speed. Internet circuits need lead time. Hardware needs to arrive and be configured before installation. Cutovers usually belong in an evening or on a weekend so staff arrive to a working environment rather than a work in progress.
We also handle the end of the lifecycle: decommissioning retired equipment, securely wiping storage, documenting what was removed and arranging responsible disposal or recycling.
- Network and switching refresh
- Firewall replacement and cutover
- Wi-Fi survey, design and installation
- Server replacement or virtualization
- New office build-out
- Office relocation and reconnection
- Additional site connectivity
- Workstation fleet rollout
- Meeting room deployment
- Cabling coordination with trades
- Equipment decommissioning
- Secure data destruction
Coordination
Someone technical on site when other trades and carriers arrive
A surprising amount of onsite value is simply being present and competent while someone else does their job. Internet installers need to know where the demarcation point should be and which equipment connects to it. Electricians need to know which circuits feed network and server equipment. Cabling crews need drop locations that match how the space will be used. Alarm, access control and phone vendors all touch the network.
We attend those appointments, answer the technical questions correctly the first time and verify the result, which avoids the pattern where three vendors each declare the work finished and nothing actually functions.
- Internet and carrier installations
- Structured cabling contractors
- Electrical and building trades
- Alarm and access control vendors
- Phone system installers
- Audio-visual integrators
- Landlord and property management
- Equipment delivery and receiving

Questions
Frequently asked questions
- How quickly can a technician get to our St. Catharines office?
- We are based in Thorold, so travel time is short, and we give you a realistic estimate when you call based on the current schedule and the nature of the problem. We deliberately avoid advertising a fixed arrival guarantee — traffic, weather, parts availability and other client emergencies all affect it, and an estimate we can keep is more useful than a number we cannot.
- Do you offer onsite support without an ongoing agreement?
- Yes, project and per-visit onsite work is available. That said, environments we manage on an ongoing basis are faster to work in because documentation, monitoring history and administrative access already exist, which usually means less time on site.
- Can onsite work happen outside business hours?
- Yes, and for anything disruptive we recommend it. Network cutovers, server replacements and large device rollouts are typically scheduled for evenings or weekends so staff are not sitting idle during the transition.
- Do you run cabling yourselves?
- New structured cabling is delivered by specialist contractors, which is the right approach for warranty and building code reasons. We design the requirement, specify drop locations, coordinate the work and terminate, patch, label and test the network side.
- Can you help with an office move?
- Yes. Moves are one of the most common reasons organizations call us. Planning starts weeks ahead — internet circuits, cabling, equipment inventory, rack and comms room design, and a sequenced cutover so the new space is functional when people arrive.
- What happens to old equipment when it is replaced?
- We remove it, securely erase or destroy storage media, document the assets that left your inventory and arrange responsible recycling or disposal. Retired equipment sitting in a storage room with readable data on it is a risk worth closing.
